As most of you know, I'm rather fond of crafting. When I'm not posting pseudonymously, I am an independent salesperson for a specific company* which is a great source of inspiration, education, and a great big hole in my pocketbook. I truly do love a lot of the things that have come my way since I've started stamping and creating, and I've been lucky enough to share my passion with lots of great people.
I went to a meeting the other day, with a lot of other consultants. The purpose was to discuss our new product lines, and a chance to get together and craft some as well. The ladies were talking about a project that would have normally taken a lot longer to put together, but was greatly assisted by a new die cut machine that we're selling. The hostess mentioned that she cut out all of the elements and assembled them all while watching Sarah Palin at the RNC. Most of the other ladies began to gush about how much they just LOVED her, and wasn't she just fabulous?!
Eeek.
Tense moment. Luckily, I was looking through a catalog, and no one was paying me any attention anyway. Good thing I wasn't making eye contact, or I could have been swept away by the pod people.
You know, I have no qualms with a woman as Vice President. Heck, I was even prepared to vote of Hilary Clinton to run the entire shebang (though it would have killed me a little inside to do so...) but Sarah Palin? No, thank you. She does not get my vote just because she has a vagina.
I know people are very polarized by things like abortion, money, capital punishment, and politics. It is not my wish that I offend anyone with my opinion, but I am allowed to have one. And Sarah Palin is not anyone I really want running this country.
She's anti-gay, anti-gay marriage, pro-gun, pro-life, and as far from green as the color spectrum allows. Let's not even talk about the state of education in Alaska, and never mind the lack of experience in running either a town or a state, much less the whole shootin' match.
John McCain, sadly, will win some people over to his side with Palin as a running mate. I just won't be one of them.

A-freakin'-men, sister! I'm obliged to give a community lecture in about a month at my college on race and gender in politics, and jebus help me, I totally don't want to talk about her. She bothers me so. much.
Did you catch the opening segment of SNL last night? They brought back Tina Fey to impersonate Palin (she had the nasal accent down pat), next to Amy Pohler as Hillary. Both were spot on. Fey was so good it would be hard to tell her from the real Palin, except when "Hillary" said "I oppose the Bush Doctrine," and Fey-as-Palin shrugged her shoulders sheepishly and said, "I don't know what that is."
A perfect way to kick of a new (political) season on SNL.
"She's anti-gay, anti-gay marriage, pro-gun, pro-life, and as far from green as the color spectrum allows."
And that's all you need to vote against her. The fact that she's a female and her current and past jobs may or may not be as prestigious as someone else or her education isn't Ivy League or she has too many children is irrelevant.
That whole "not ready for the job" whether it's Obama or Palin makes me crazy. In that case, the only people who could be President would be past Presidents. It's as if you need fifty times as many reasons for not voting for Palin. (well, not you-you, but the overkill you I keep hearing. And I live in CA whose Electoral College votes are going to Obama no matter what gender the Republican VP is)
I 2nd the SNL spot. In addition, I saw a brilliant John Stewart spot the other day re: feminism and politics.
Also, I have never felt better about living in a foreign country than I do right now. If Obama/Biden wins, I can victoriously return in 2 years as they've gotten settled in. And if McCain/Palin wins, I can electively choose to stay in the UK. :) And that's coming from someone who, until 2002, was a registered *Republican*.
Carrie K -- I agree with you on the "not ready for the job" thing applying to Obama as well. There are things about his voting record that I'm not overjoyed with. I think the reason that women are reacting so viscerally to Palin is the McCain thinks we're honestly be swayed by the fact that she's a woman. That we were so hot to have a woman in charge that we'd ignore her voting record (such as it is) and her shortcomings, and vote her in simply due to her sex.
I'm not falling for it, and I'm pissed that McCain thinks that little of American women. Thanks for commenting!
Reina and Jeni -- no, I did not see the SNL spoof when it happened, but I did see a quick blurb of it on the Today show this morning as I was getting ready for work. Fey's waving and schmoozing the crowd was right on, and I had to snort when she did her "gun and bikini" pose. Poehler's Hilary was not as close a likeness as Fey's Palin. Still funny, though.
KLee - have no fear. The full Fey-as-Palin sketch is all over the web. The clearest version I've seen is the one from the official NBC site:

Do yourself a favor and watch it in its entirety - just make sure you're not eating or drinking anything unless you dig your old Monitor Mate out of storage first.
oh, i'm so late! palin has been driving me wild since she was announced. nothing about her policies or experience gives me any confidence in her. it makes me think mccain believes we are all stupid.
As much as I love the idea that a woman is on the ticket, I would have to be on fire and need putting out before I could vote for her. Aside from her political views she has no experience. She makes Obama looked over experienced.
It scares me to think that John McCain has a chance now that he has her on the ticket. Scary stuff.
