I'm one of those bloggers that asks the hard questions -- the questions like: "Was it YOU who farted in the elevator?" And: "If 7/11 is open 24 hours a day, why is there a lock on the door?" And: "If I were to donate this excess bag of flesh I call a body to science, how much would it net me?" And, lo and behold, here is the answer!
$4940.00
Not bad, huh? Probably more than I'm worth, though. Wish I could collect that BEFORE my untimely demise.....

Ooh, I'm worth 5500! Wish I could sell it now on a "reserve to pick up later" basis.
I went back and fudged a few answers, wanting to see if I could up my worth, and based on my second try, I could net $5,665. Man! I sure could use that money!
Woohoo! Mine is worth $5075. I am thinking that a boring lifestyle leads to an expensive corpse.
I wonder if I could have gotten more money if I had said I had extra limbs or something.
I'm $4,900. If I weren't taking the medicine for teh crazy, I could have a more expensive corpse.
I'm also worth $5075. I noticed that when I said I didn't have diabetes the dollar sign bar line barely increased, but when I noted I had long hair it did. I suppose the less typical you are, the more you're worth.
It's kind of creepy, but my aunt donated her body to science. She had polio back in the 1950s and was in an iron lung for a year or two. So she hoped they might be able to learn something from her about how the long-term effects of polio.
I am worthless. Only $4290.
jo(e): I think the "odder" your corpse is, the more science is willing to fork over in order to see what makes you tick. I think the only reason I'm worth so much, despite my boring life, is that I make up for it in sheer poundage alone.
ccw: or maybe they pay THAT MUCH for you *because of* the meds! They want to see what effects they have on the body. 'Sides, crazy is as crazy does. And, compared to some people I know, you are as far away from crazy as you could get.
La Reina: it may seem creepy to you, but I bet your aunt's body WAS of help in determining what polio or iron lungs did for/to people in that era. Maybe her sacrifice led great strides in the field or research or development. And, if nothing else, it was a generous deed on her part.
Coffeypot: I wouldn't call you "worthless" at all! I'd say you're a gem among men. They probably just deducted money from you because of all the hellraising you did in your misspent youth. And adulthood. And currently. :)
What's sad is that, while people ARE making large amounts of money selling donated cadavers' skin to plastic surgeons and bone to dentists, the family of the deceased doesn't see a penny of that. And supposedly hot comoddities like skin are more likely to go for money-making things like elective plastic surgery than to the worst needs like burn victims. The system needs some revamping.
