Crafts and such

A quilt I did for my Mom awhile ago. She lives at the beach, and loves lighthouses, so this pattern was one I grabbed on quickly for her. It's the first piece I've ever done in both the "stained glass" genre, as well as the foundation piecing method. I was pretty pleased with it. It's small, just large enough to cover a tabletop, and I had intended it to be a wall hanging.

I especially love the fabric you used for the water.

I had to find something "watery" looking, and it was called "Water"! How convenient! I ended up caling this piece "Seascape." What do you think? do you like it?

Oh, yes! Sorry, I went right to the fabric comment and never said it was pretty! It's the kind of thing that would take you right to the beach in your mind even when you were away from it. Is piecing that way hard?

No, it was much easier than I expected it to be! I had always been intimidated by those patterns, and this one was worded so well, direction-wise that I felt very secure with it.

I'm glad you liked it. A couple of people told me (IRL) that they were put off by the jewel tones. What they didn't know was that the orig. pattern was done as a sunset, and was all in purples and reds. That's not my mom's speed, so I chose my own fabrics. I also loved the stained glass look of it. I was pretty pleased with it, comsidering.

OMG, that's awesome! How big is it (queen, full, whatever)? It's hard to get a sense of scale from the photo.

I usually prefer more geometric or abstract quilt designs, but this one looks beautiful. See, I didn't know you're an artist.

Scriv, it is about the size of your average dinette table. It was intended as a wall-hanging, but I don't know if my Mom has actually hung it anywhere. It's not all that large.

Thanks for the compliments, guys. I plan on posting a picture of the pocketbook I made for myself a couple of weeks ago as soon as I can find what I did with the picture....I think I have a couple of other quilt pictures around here as well....

What a nice representation of a lighthouse. So many lighthouse images are just, well, ugly. We saw a sweatshirt with lighthouses all over it in Provincetown years ago, and it was so horrible it turned me off to one of the most beautiful beach images ever.
You have saved this image for me.
I love this. Show us more!

I love it!

I have always wanted to do a quilt but keep getting overwhelmed when I actually go to the fabric store. Maybe I should try a pattern, that might help me to stay grounded and not overwhelmed.

This one is gorgeous!

Thatks, YT -- I'm glad that I've settled down your lighthouse ire for you. My mom is freaky in love with lighthouses, so I have to find new and interesting patterns to cross-stitch or quilt for her. I'd been looking for a nice quilt patttern for a while, and this one seemed fairly easy to do, so I jumped on it! I did, like I said, modify the colors. The orig. was all in reds and purples...it was supposed to be a sunset, but those are not the colors Mom really prefers

Halloweenlover, I can think of a couple of very easy patterns for you to start out with. Most of the basic patterns I started with were squares and triangles, and they turned out to be fairly easy. Most of the patterns you see in magazines are intimidating at first. I am just now starting to get more daring with the quilting. I'd be happy to email (or snail mail) you some basic patterns and ideas.)

I'll have to post a picture of the paper sculpture of a Christmas centerpiece I made for a friend a few years ago....that's another favorite of mine. But, first, I have to find that dad-blamed picture of my pocketbook!
